TrapIT Solvent Waste System


Chromatography Direct’s TrapIT Heavy Duty (HD) Solvent Waste System is designed to be an affordable solution for liquid waste disposal. Each system is manufactured to safely collect waste from one or more HPLC systems while the carbon exhaust filter improves air quality by capturing potentially harmful vapours emitted from solvents.

Each system includes a 4L, 5L, 10L, or 20L HDPE carboy, two 83B TrapCAP™ caps (one open top for waste collection and one closed for safe transport), various ports for waste tubing, 1 port for a carbon exhaust filter, 1 carbon exhaust filter, and plugs for unused ports.

The HD Solvent Waste System manifold attaches to the SureGRIP™ Carboy allowing for safe transport to solvent collection room.

The TrapIT™ UN/DOT containers come with a closed 51mm or 70mm TrapCAP that are UN/DOT Certified, and are designed to be single-use for easy and safe disposal of laboratory waste.

An unfortunate consequence of chemical use in the laboratory is the production of hazardous waste leading to concerns over proper care and disposal. Most people are aware of the cautions to be taken with solvents due to the dangers such as Methanol, Acetonitrile and Hexane used in HPLC, SPE and Formic Acid found in many MS mobile phases. Solvent waste from instruments in the lab must be contained for disposal and is highly regulated and containment is important to prevent adverse health effects.

Many waste products made in the lab are in liquid form, making containment a simple issue. However, these liquids are often volatile organic compounds (VOCs), meaning they have the potential to easily vaporise in the lab and spread through the air. While some of these vapours present a smell, many are unidentifiable and workers are not acutely aware of them.

Although research on the effects of these chemical vapours on humans in ongoing, it is clear that inhaling these vapours puts people at risk for a multitude of symptoms including sensory irritation, difficulty breathing, toxicity of the liver and neurological system and even cancer*.

In order to contain these vapours, which are potential health hazards for people working in the lab), improved waste containment must be implemented. Common lab practices have not been sufficient in containing these vapours.

Our closed system waste containers with activated carbon filters not only create an organised containment for solvent waste, they also provide an efficient way to collect and dispose of vapour wastes.
